Ways to check a laser source with unstable value


Laser Source

Problem:

1. When we switch frequency modulation: on 2kHz powermeter shows - ~ 0dBm,
on 1kHz - ~ -4.9dBm and on 270Hz - ~ -12.5dBm.
2. If we will use frequency modulation 2kHz, does it mean
that our laser source output power is 0dBm?
We think there might be several situation that would cause these problem:
First, Please let us explain what the modulation frequency in this tester means. 
If a laser source is working on CW mode, the light wave launched by the laser source, is continuous, there is no slot(Here means the short term that the light launcher don’t launch any light) in the wave. But for a modulated light wave(2kHz, 1kHz, 270Hz), the light wave is discrete, there are many regular slots in light wave. The slots divide a light wave into many short pulses and the size of each pulses is determined by time. As we know, . More bigger the modulation frequency is, more shorter each light pulse and slot are.
